WikiEducator - a great idea!
I became very excited when our lecturer of the ICT programme invited us to join the training workshop "WikiEducator". The goal of WikiEducator is to develop a free education curriculum using the wiki medium and the idea of the workshop as I understand it is to help people learn how to use wikis to collaborate and develop content by observing how contributors to the WikiEducator projects operate. Contributors accept different roles and develop content or assist in the various aspects of content development according to the roles that they have assumed. You the learner can interact with the contributors and participate in projects. This programme is new to me so I will see how it goes. However I think that the hands-on information will help a person develop the practical skills to use wikis effectively. Maybe in the end, you and I might become a valuable WikiEducator literacy contributor someday.

Seeing that I have selected the wiki to focus on in my research paper,I was drawn to this post. Indeed, the world of wiki is exciting and the more that we learn, the more proficient we should become. I am very excited to learn as much as possible, even though it is time-consuming at first.
ReplyDeleteAs you spoke about the development of a free education curriculum, I understand that for the country of South Africa, the entire curriculum for the high schools is now in a wiki (http://tinyurl.com/nvu9v). Hopefully, as Wikieducators we, too, can make our contribution nationally in a way that would significantly impact on our educational system.
That is truly amazing to have the entire curriculum in a wiki. Since you are researching Wiki technology, this workshop might be a good idea for you. I am in total agreement with you. If we as budding reading specialist can use our skills to contribute not only in the classroom (which is good) but nationally as well, that would be even greater.
